Guitar Hero: Aerosmith Edition

Well, it turns out that the baffling rumor that the next Guitar Hero release would follow a single band, Aerosmith, has turned out to be true, with Activision announcing that Guitar Hero: Aerosmith would be released this June for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, and Wii.

Neversoft (Tony Hawk, Guitar Hero 3) will be working on the PS3 and 360 versions, while the Wii version is being worked on by Vicarious Visions (Guitar Hero 3), and the PS2 version is being created by Budcat Creations (Guitar Hero 3).

The game will put players in the shoes of Aerosmith guitarists Joe Perry and Brad Whitford and bassist Tom Hamilton as they take virtual rockers through a discography of the band's history, including influential songs, and classic hits. Players will be on-board as the band becomes more famous, eventually becoming musical gods (or something like that).

Whether this washes with gamers itching for their next fix of Guitar Hero remains to be seen. I can imagine this concept working well for a band like, oh I don't know, ACDC, but Aerosmith? Wheelchairs and retirement village condo's not included.

If you just can't wait until June to sample the sort of songs you can expect from Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, you can download the Aerosmith song "Dream On" for free for Guitar Hero 3 now on XBLA or the Playstation network.

Rock on!
